GRTA (pronounced gret-a) is the State of Georgia authority working to improve Georgia's mobility, air quality, and land use practices. The governor and legislature created GRTA as a catalyst to move the Atlanta region forward.

MOBILITY
GRTA partners with metro Atlanta counties and others, helping them implement public transportation and public transit projects and measure the performance of the transportation network. Projects include:

GA400 traffic AIR QUALITY

  • GRTA is working to reduce ozone and particulate matter levels in our air and helping metro counties meet the air quality standards.
  • GRTA’s Annual Air Quality Report is the yardstick the region uses to measure its progress. The 2005 Report is now available.

LAND USE

  • New Shopping Mall? Subdivision? Office Tower?  GRTA reviews Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs) for their impact on the region’s transportation network and identifies ways to reduce any negative impacts.  DRI Review pages

  • GRTA is examining incentives and best practices for linking land use and transportation.  An ongoing study and Regional Forum focuses on the role of land use and regional development goals in the transportation project selection process.County Map

GRTA’s JURISDICTION
GRTA assists 13 counties that have been designated nonattainment for ozone and particulate matter under the Federal Clean Air Act standards. That jurisdiction may be extended to other counties in the region that have also been designated nonattainment.
