The GRTA Northern Sub-Area Study to Host Open House Series
GRTA Invites the Public to Comment on Regional Development

ATLANTA - Can traffic congestion in the northern portion of the metropolitan Atlanta region be managed over the next 25 years?  What kinds of land use and transportation infrastructure will we need if we implement the development plans of our cities and counties?  Do regional development principles actually meet the needs of the region?

The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority's (GRTA) Northern Sub-Area Study (NSAS) will provide the answers to these and similar questions during a series of open house meetings in early February.

The study has examined the potential impact of development according to each of three alternatives over the next 25 years.  Alternative One focuses on the needs of the region based on the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP).  Alternative Two has a policy-based focus, building from the principle outlined in the Regional Development Plan (RDP).  Alternative Three is based on the development plans of the cities and counties in the sub area.

The NSAS is studying what might occur if the region bounded roughly on the south by I-285, the north by Georgia 20, the west by I-75 and the east by I-85, were to develop over the next 25 years following each of these alternatives.  The information gained from the analysis of each of the alternatives will be shared with the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and county and city planning agencies for various uses including developing the 2030 RTP.  The final report of the NSAS will be delivered in May, and will include recommendations regarding the implementation of each of the three alternatives being studied.

The meetings will be held from 7-9:00 pm at the following locations:
