GRTA
Board Appoints Stancil Executive Director
ATLANTA
- Steven L. Stancil was appointed executive director of the Georgia
Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) by the GRTA Board of Directors
during their meeting today.
Stancil, a real
estate appraiser and former state representative from
Canton
, was recommended for the position by Governor Perdue.
"I am pleased and honored to have been given this opportunity to
once again serve the people of
Georgia
," said Stancil. "I look forward to working with the GRTA
Board and staff, and to all of GRTA's transportation partners, to bring
cost-effective, common sense solutions to the region's transportation
and air quality challenges."
"Steve Stancil is a great addition for GRTA," said Walter M.
Deriso, chairman of the GRTA board of directors. "His leadership
and experience will be a strong asset as we work to build even greater
cooperation in the region for addressing traffic congestion, land use
and air quality."
Jim Ritchey
, who had served as the GRTA acting executive director since January,
will remain with the authority in his previous role as Deputy Director.
From 1988 - 2001, Stancil was a member of the State House of
Representatives serving the communities of Woodstock, Canton, Holly
Springs, Waleska, and Ball Ground. In 1992, he was elected House
Republican Leader by his colleagues. He is a member of the Cherokee
Board of Realtors, Georgia Association of Realtors and President of the
Advisory Board at
Reinhardt
College
. Stancil served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as Staff Sergeant in
1977. He received an associate degree from
Reinhardt
College
and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the
University
of
Georgia
. Stancil has been awarded the "Legislative Service Award" on
three different occasions by the Georgia Municipal Association and the
Association of County Commissioners of
Georgia
. He and his wife, Cristal, have three sons.
