GRTA BOARD REVISES MISSION, DEFINES ROLES
Principles for Transportation Investments, Land Use Outlined

Atlanta - "It is the mission of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority/Governor's Development Council to improve Georgia 's mobility, air quality and land use practices."

"I applaud the GRTA Board of Directors for so clearly and simply defining the authority's mission," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "Combined with the roles and principles the board defined at their retreat last month, they have set GRTA on a clear track toward reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality in our region and state."

In addition to adopting the revised mission statement, the GRTA board set out a set of guiding principles and roles for the authority, with specific focus on transportation investments and land use. Chief among those roles and principles are the commitment to operate as an open, accountable, efficient and effective public agency, that the authority will base decisions on fact-based analysis that provides the greatest public benefit for the resources invested, and that GRTA will advocate and implement a transportation system that is multi-modal, seamless, and accessible to all.

"Our dedication to serving Georgia 's needs is clear," said Walter M. Deriso, Jr., Chairman of the GRTA Board of Directors. "We know there is no single answer to improving mobility, air quality and land use. It's not just more roads, or just more transit, or just better land use. It's a combination of all of these things. Our work last month, and our action today, renews GRTA's commitment to working together with our partners in the region to develop and implement the comprehensive programs necessary to ensure that we are putting in place the practices and systems that will solve our congestion problems and improve our air quality."

The revised mission statement and list of roles and principles is attached to this release. It will also be posted to the GRTA website at www.grta.org.
