GRTA Board Sets Strategic Directions

On Dec. 2 and 3, the GRTA board held a retreat to discuss the agency's course of action. The board began work on a long-term Vision Statement and Mission Statement, and adopted a list of Strategic Directions to guide GRTA for the next two years. The 2-year Strategic Directions are:
1. Adopt performance goals and measures, including mobility and quality of life.
2. Encourage design standards and guidelines to insure connectivity in the regional transportation system.
3. Public involvement, outreach and education.
4. Adopt policies for reviewing Developments of Regional Impact (which GRTA must approve), and establish connection between land use and transportation.
5. Build cooperative relationships with partners including Atlanta Regional Commission, Department of Transportation, MARTA, Cobb Community Transit, local governments and other stakeholders in the region.
6. Explore creative sources of revenue, and work to secure funding for regional transportation system.
7. Establish priorities for regional transportation investments.
8. Develop plans for transportation projects contained in long-range plan that only GRTA is in a position to implement, including regional bus service, regional van pools, and light rail in the northwest quadrant of the region.
