GRTA Board Defines Vision, Mission

The mission of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority and the vision of the directors who govern it were spelled out Wednesday with the adoption of an official Mission Statement and Vision Statement.

The board had begun working on the documents at a retreat in December,1999. The final versions were hammered out by board and staff members over the last two months and unanimously adopted by the board Wednesday. These statements will guide the work of GRTA and the Governor’s Development Council, which is governed by the same board members.

VISION STATEMENT:

- The Authority will work to plan and implement a transportation system that is multi-modal, seamless, and accessible to all citizens.

- The Authority will encourage land use policies that promote efficient use of infrastructure investments.

- The Authority will operate within a decision-making framework that values public participation and connects transportation choices, land use and the overall Quality of Life.

- The Authority will serve the best interests of the region by working in cooperation with other agencies and governments that are involved in planning and transportation.

- The Authority will measure its effectiveness in improving air quality, traffic, accessibility and land use.

MISSION STATEMENT:

It is the mission of GRTA/GDC to provide the citizens of Georgia with transportation choices, improved air quality, and better land use in order to enhance their quality of life and promote growth that can be sustained by future generations.
