GRTA Board Creates New Committee Structure
to Reflect Role as Implementer

Atlanta - At its January 9, 2002 monthly meeting the Board of Directors of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) reorganized its committee structure to create greater operating efficiencies for the authority as it takes on its role as an implementer of transportation solutions.

The board additionally modified its bylaws to increase membership on the executive committee to seven. In a related action, the board reset its meeting schedule so that the majority of committee meetings and the monthly board meeting will occur on the second Wednesday of each month. The changes result from discussions held during the Board of Directors’ planning retreat in December 2001.

The two new committees of the board will be the Planning and Projects committee, chaired by Steven Bruning, and the Operations and Finance committee, chaired by Ken Thigpen. The Planning and Projects committee will be responsible for guiding GRTA’s general planning efforts and for identifying and implementing specific GRTA projects. Operations and Finance will be responsible for guiding projects once they have passed the initial implementation phase and for the authority’s financial activities.

Committees retained from the previous structure include Executive, Developments of Regional Impact, Conflicts Advisory, and Georgia Rail Passenger Program/Program Management Team Liaison. The Bus committee and the Transportation committee were eliminated.

A chart indicating committee assignments for each board member is attached, as is a revised 2002 board and committee meeting schedule.
