C-TRAN
C-Tran,
Clayton County Transit, began operations on Monday October 1, 2001,
the first bus service to be inaugurated in the Atlanta region in
over 12 years consists of Service initially two routes, 501 and
503, connecting Jonesboro and Hartsfield International Airport by
way of Forest Park and Riverdale, respectively. In February 2003
operating hours were extended, Sunday service was added, and a third
route, serving Riverdale/Highway 85 / Flint River Road, was
implemented.
Regional
Express Bus/Arterial Roads Program
In
the spring of 2002, the Boards of Commissioners in Clayton, Coweta,
Douglas, Henry, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Paulding and
Rockdale counties all voted to participate in the GRTA Regional
Express Bus System and Arterial Road Program. A legal
challenge to the bond program originally intended to fund the
program delayed the project for approximately one year. The
Regional Express Bus and Arterial Roads program was reinvigorated in
early summer of 2003.
GRTA
will provide express bus service to each of the counties in exchange
for a one-time payment toward the costs of the service.
Additionally, the counties have identified arterial road projects
with a value approximately ten times that of the operating costs
payment. Using bond funds provided by the SRTA, GRTA will work
with the counties, the ARC and the GDOT to build the projects.
Bus service on the first routes will begin in 2004. Work on
the arterial road projects will begin in the fall of 2003.
