and MARTA – The most cost-effective fare combinations
Making
a single round-trip using Xpress and MARTA?
If
you are making a single round-trip using Xpress
and MARTA, your most cost-effective fare combination is a
single-ride Xpress ticket
and MARTA transfer for $3 and a single-ride MARTA fare and
transfer for $1.75 – a total of $4.75. (Save $2 off the cost
of an Xpress
round-trip ticket and MARTA transfer and MARTA one-way ticket.
$5 + $1.75 = $6.75)
Traveling
regularly on Xpress and MARTA?
If
you make regular trips using Xpress
and MARTA, your most cost effective fare combination is a
20-ride Xpress pass ($45) and a MARTA 20-token package ($30). At $75, this
combination saves you $5 over a 31-day Xpress
pass ($80)! Just make sure to get a transfer when you board
the Xpress coach at
the start of one leg of your trip and when you go through the
MARTA turnstiles on the other leg of your trip.
Transferring
Between Xpress and MARTA
For many metropolitan
Atlanta transit users, the combination of Xpress
and MARTA is the best and easiest way to make the daily
commute. Transferring between Xpress
and MARTA and back again is easy.
Transferring
from Xpress to MARTA
1. When you board the Xpress
coach, ask the operator for a MARTA transfer. The operator
will give you a MARTA bus-to-rail transfer. The transfer is
only valid for a few hours after it has been issued. It will
not be good the next day, so use it for your trip today!
2. When you exit the Xpress
coach and enter the MARTA station (for many Xpress
riders this will be at the MARTA Five Points station) use the
transfer to go through the turnstiles.

Put the transfer, magnetic stripe side down, in the
horizontal slot of the machine on the right hand side of the turnstile you
wish to pass through. Active turnstiles have a green light with a white arrow
pointing up. |

The machine will take your transfer and unlock the
turnstile so you may pass through. |

Go through the turnstile and follow the directional
signs to your train. |
Transferring
from MARTA to Xpress
when you pay the MARTA fare at the turnstile, use a
single-ride MARTA pass or a MARTA token.
1. Enter the MARTA station
and go to the turnstile.
2. At the turnstile, in the
machine on the right hand side of the turnstile you wish to
pass
through,
put your token or coins in the vertical slot or your
single-use pass in the
horizontal
slot of the turnstile machine. A white, rectangular button on
top of the
turnstile
machine will, usually, light up.
3. Push the white,
rectangular button.

A paper transfer will pop-up from a slot at the
far-end of the turnstile machine. Pass through the turnstile and take the transfer from
the machine. Keep it with you
as you will need the transfer to give to the Xpress
coach operator when you board the Xpress
Coach.

If the transfer does not appear, push the button
again. The transfer should appear. |

If the
transfer does not appear after pushing the button several
times, find a station
agent, explain that the transfer was not available from the
machine, and ask
for a transfer. Keep the transfer you are given to give to the
Xpress coach
operator. |

If no station agent is available at the MARTA
station where you start your trip, find one at the station where you finish
your trip explain that the transfer was not
available from the machine at the station where you started
your trip, and ask
for a transfer. Keep the transfer you are given to give to the
Xpress coach operator. |

4. Get off MARTA at the
station nearest to your Xpress
stop, exit the station and go to
the
nearest Xpress stop. (Remember that at Five Points the outbound Xpress
stop is
one
block east of the Peachtree Street entrance at Pryor and
Alabama, in front of
Mick’s
restaurant.)
5.
When your Xpress
coach arrives, board the coach and give the operator your
transfer slip.
6. Enjoy your ride!
Transferring
from MARTA to Xpress using
a current MARTA monthly or weekly pass.
1. Ride MARTA as you
normally would, using your pass to go through the turnstiles.
2. Exit the MARTA station
nearest to your Xpress
stop, exit the station and go to the
nearest Xpress stop. (Remember that at Five Points the outbound Xpress
stop is one
block east
of the Peachtree Street entrance at Pryor and Alabama, in
front of Mick’s
restaurant.)
3. When your Xpress
coach arrives, board the coach and show the operator your
current
MARTA
monthly or weekly pass.
4. Enjoy your ride!
